Fulfilled by TikTok is the largest single line on most TikTok Shop fee statements — routinely three to four times the referral commission. It is also the line sellers model worst, because the tier is set by the weight of the whole parcel rather than the product.

Two things to notice. First, the curve is steepest at the bottom: 4 oz of extra weight between the first two tiers costs $0.24, but the jump from 8 oz to 1 lb costs $1.01. Second, above 10 lb the rate climbs past $10 quickly, which is where heavy categories lose their margin entirely. Weight matters more than price
Seller attention usually goes to price. The tier is the bigger lever. Take a single $30 product and move it through the tiers:

The price never moved. Only the parcel did — and the platform cost nearly doubled, from 20.3% to 38.1%. A 17-point swing on the same sale is larger than the effect of most pricing decisions, and it is invisible in any model that treats fulfillment as a fixed assumption.
The same logic runs in reverse. Trim packaging and move a product from the 4–8 oz tier into the sub-4 oz tier and you save $0.24 per unit — on a 100-unit month that is $24, for free. Move a 5 lb item down to 4 lb and you save $0.90 a unit, or $90 a month. That is usually worth more than any referral-rate negotiation.
Why multi-item orders cost less per unit
Multi-item orders are priced per order, not per unit. The first unit carries the tier rate and additional units in the same parcel add only a fraction of it. On the lightest tier, a four-item order works out to roughly $1.56 per unit instead of $4.28.

Indicative figures derived from the per-order pricing behaviour of the same rate card — your exact rate depends on the combined parcel weight, so check the tier your bundle lands in. The direction is unambiguous though: bundling converts FBT from a per-item tax into a per-order one, which is why 2-packs and 3-packs outperform single units in the same category on this platform.
This is also why "free shipping over $X" promotions work differently here than on Shopify. The incremental second unit costs you a fraction of the fulfillment of the first, so the bundle discount is cheaper to fund than it looks.
FBT vs self-shipping vs upgraded TikTok shipping
FBT is the default, not the obligation. Three fulfilment paths exist in 2026:
- FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok). You send inventory to a TikTok warehouse; TikTok picks, packs and ships. You pay the per-unit rate above plus monthly storage. Orders ship with TikTok's own handling-time guarantee, which feeds into listing quality signals.
- Self-shipping. You buy the label and ship. Usually cheaper per unit on heavy or oddly shaped goods, and you control packaging — but you own the handling time, the late-shipment risk and the customer service load.

How to find your real tier
Weigh the packed parcel, not the product. Packaging, mailers, inserts, protective wrap and the label all count toward the shipped weight, and TikTok rounds up into the next band. Products that sit just under a boundary are worth re-specifying:
- A 7.8 oz parcel is billed at the 8–12 oz rate ($4.70). Shaving 0.3 oz of packaging drops it to the 4–8 oz rate ($4.52).
- A 1 lb 1 oz parcel is billed in the 1–2 lb band ($5.71). At 15.9 oz it would be billed at $5.10.
- Boundary products are the highest-return packaging projects on the platform, because the saving is permanent and applies to every unit you ever sell.
