Two official notes travel with the table. Storage is calculated daily at 23:59 on the total cubic feet of all your units, “including both sellable and defective units” — so damaged stock keeps billing until it leaves. And the minimum chargeable volume is 0.001 cubic feet per SKU per day, which only matters for items smaller than a thumbnail.
What the tiers are for is deciding what to do about stock that is not moving: a discount is paid once, storage is paid every day and the rate accelerates as the unit ages. When discounting beats waiting works one batch through these same tiers.

Where the cost really comes from

Storage ignores how heavy the unit is. A dense 6×4×2 inch box costs a fifth of what a 10×8×6 inch box does, for the same product. If your packaging is mostly air, you rent that air by the day.
Age compounds the rate
Nothing changes at day 61 except the rate. The same shelf space bills nine times as much by day 366 as it did on day 61, which is why slow movers hurt twice: capital stalled and a rising rent.
Every unit in the building counts
Returns, damaged goods and dead SKUs are billed the same as sellable stock. The rate card is explicit about it, so the cheapest storage decision is often disposal or a clearance price rather than another month of rent.
Reading the two tables
03 / how to use itThe day-by-day table splits your holding period into the tiers it crosses, so you can see exactly which band is driving the bill. If almost all of the cost sits in the 181–270 row, the fix is not better packaging — it is selling, discounting or removing the stock.
The other-ages table prices the identical batch at 30, 60, 90, 180, 270 and 365 days. The jump between the 90-day and 180-day rows is the number to show a supplier or a buying decision: it is the rent you are choosing to pay by ordering more than you can sell.
One caveat, stated plainly: this models a batch that arrives together and leaves together. Real inventory ages in slices, so if you restock every two weeks your actual bill is a blend of every tier at once. Treat the result as the cost of a decision, not a forecast of your invoice.

Is FBT storage charged monthly or daily?
Daily. The rate card states fees are calculated daily at 23:59 based on the total cubic feet of all your units, including both sellable and defective units. Guides that quote a flat monthly per-cubic-foot figure are converting the mid-tier daily rates to a month — $0.03 to $0.06 a day is about $0.90 to $1.80 a month. The error is not the arithmetic but the word “flat”: past 180 days the same space bills $0.12 a day and past a year $0.27, which no single monthly figure captures.
How is storage duration counted?
The rate card defines it as Storage Days = Outbound Time − Inbound Time, so the clock starts when your inventory is received, not when you created the shipment or when it left your supplier.
Does defective or unsellable inventory still incur storage fees?
Yes. The official note says storage is billed on the total cubic feet of all your units, including both sellable and defective units. Damaged stock sitting in the warehouse keeps costing money until it is removed or disposed of, and defective units do not earn.
Why does storage get so much more expensive after 180 days?
The card prices age deliberately: inventory older than 180 days bills at $0.12 per cubic foot per day, four times the day-61 rate, and over a year it reaches $0.27. On a 0.28 cubic foot unit that is about $0.076 per unit per day — roughly $227 a month on 100 units of dead stock, before you count the capital it ties up.
